Valor Villages Opens Veterans Housing Facility in St. Louis to Combat Homelessness Among Heroes

Valor Villages and Valor Medica opened a new housing project, supported by The Hunt Foundation, offering critical support to unhoused veterans.

Valor #1 Housing

The residence houses eight formerly unhoused veterans across two units — four women on one side, four men on the other. It is not a shelter bed for the night. It is a residence, with a kitchen, laundry, a door that locks, help getting the benefits residents had already earned, and a ride to their medical appointments.

That last item is the part most easily overlooked and the one that decides whether medical care happens at all.

The scale of the problem

On a single night in 2022, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development counted more than 33,000 veterans experiencing homelessness nationally.

Why the medical arm exists

Housing programs place people successfully and then lose them, because the untreated condition that contributed to homelessness carries on untreated. Valor Medica was formed as the partnership’s medical arm to close that gap — assessment at the point of placement, medication continuity across a move, transport to appointments, and early warning when a health problem is about to threaten a placement.
